Jennée Antoinette is the artist behind Wayfaring Woman Ceramics. She makes small-batch mugs, planters, and vases that are infused with earthly elements and inspired by the beauty of Black women.

Ato Arinze is the co-founder and co-ordinator of the most popular Art Group in Lagos - Artzero Group. Born in the mid 60's, from Onitsha in Anambra state, he has participated in many exhibition both within and outside the country with his work well represented in private and public collections. With over 27 years of studio practice as a Ceramics Sculptor, his love for the Clay medium and perfection in handling the material has endeared him in the minds of Art Patrons.

Bamikole Adeola was a clay pot distributor who recognized gaps between demand and supply in clay crafts. This realization led her to expand her horizon by fully diving into pottery with a vision to put African pottery on global stage.

Malene Barnett is an award-winning multidisciplinary artist, and textile designer, based in Brooklyn, New York. She is also the founder of the Black Artist + Designers Guild, a curated collective of independent black artists, makers, and designers. Malene is interested in finding ways to define the black narrative while raising awareness about racial inequality in America. Her artistic practice is inseparable from her work as an activist. Through her sculptural ceramic tiles and vessels, mixed media paintings and handwoven rugs, she shares her African heritage with a global audience.

Camille Beckles is the founder and owner of Camille at the Wheel, a collection of wheel thrown pottery that is carved and altered by hand.

MaPó Kinnord grew up in Cleveland, Ohio. She received her first training in ceramics through Cleveland’s Quaker-founded alternative high school, the School on Magnolia. She apprenticed with several production potters before receiving her Bachelor of Fine Arts from the Massachusetts College of Art in 1984. She received a Master of Fine Arts degree from Ohio State University in 1994. Arriving in New Orleans in 1995, she now serves as an Associate Professor of Art at Xavier University. A well-respected educator, Kinnord has taught workshops at Haystack Mountain School of Crafts in Maine and the Penland School of Craft in North Carolina, as well as the Kambe no Sato Arts Center in Matsue, Japan. She has researched the traditional and contemporary art of Ghana and has produced video documentation of the traditional pottery, kiln building and ceramic architecture of Northern Ghana, West Africa.

Kay creates wheel thrown and hand built pottery out of a clay she formulated in college. This clay is designed to be able to build large pots and withstand the pressure of atmospheric firings. Most of her pieces are unglazed.

Isissa is a multidisciplinary artist and designer. She makes functional, wheel-thrown, hand-embellished ceramics that explore self concept, personal history, and duality, while occupying a middle space that is all their own.

Kyle Lee was born in White Plains, NY and currently resides in Brooklyn NY. He creates voluptuous vessels and well-turned cups that provide the canvas for his unique hand painting and surface treatments.

David MacDonald received his BS in Art Education from Hampton University; and his MFA from the University of Michigan. In 1971 he joined the faculty of the School of Art at Syracuse University, retiring in 2008. His work has been featured in several ceramic textbooks and magazines. He has also been featured in several nationally televised programs; such as, HGTV’s “Modern Masters” and PBS’s “A Craftsmen’s Legacy”. He has been given a number of awards by various national arts organizations such as, National Conference for the Education in the Ceramics Arts’ “Excellence in Teaching Award” and the National Crafts Council’s “Master Craftsman Award”.

Since his retirement he has been active lecturing across the country and working in his studio creating his signature ceramic works.

Sana Musasama received her BA from City College of New York, NY (1973) and her MFA from Alfred University, NY (1988). Musasama began traveling as a way to recover identity and cultural place. Clay was a geographical catalyst that brought her first to West Africa. She studied Mende pottery in Sierra Leone (1974-75) and ventured later to Japan, China, South America and Cambodia. She has continued her quest, expanding her interests to tribal adornment practices in various indigenous cultures. She is challenged by the concerns surrounding the safety of women, specifically the rituals involving rites of passage, female chastity and the “purification” of the female body.

Musasama’s travels have transformed her and her approach to clay. Realizing that clay is universal, she believes that there is no dichotomy between her life and her work. Her trekking has taught her valuable lessons in observation, her mission speaks of a global citizen who walks through the artwork, heart first. Musasama’s work is informed by history, women’s studies, culture and her travel journal.

Winnie Owens-Hart, is an educator, artist, filmmaker, author, and critical thinker in matters of clay, art, and culture. She has taught at Howard University for more than 37 years and has conducted research, exhibited, and presented lectures internationally. She has worked with women in a pottery village in Ghana for more than a decade. As both a published author and curator, Owens-Hart has curated exhibitions primarily focused on contemporary African American artists and has also produced documentary films, including Style & Technique-Four Pottery Villages and The Traditional Potters of Ghana-The Women of Kuli. Over more than four decades, her work has been exhibited nationally and internationally with work in the collections of the Smithsonian Institution, The John Michael Kohler Art Museum, universities, and private collections.
