Since 2017, Bisila Noha has been travelling to different pottery communities in Mexico, Morocco, Ivory Coast, Nigeria and Senegal. These experiences have imbued in her a sense of responsibility, as well as pride, as she now sees herself as part of a matrilineal heritage.
Taking active part in the making process of each location, Bisila’s travels bring us closer to practices that have been passed on generation after generation, with a deep connection to their environments and histories.
Beyond the sense of belonging, Bisila’s time amongst potters from the Global Majority have also enriched her practice from a practical perspective: from techniques and her choice of clays; to a resourceful way of looking and finding solutions.
She will share with us her documentation from her most recent trips in Nigeria and Senegal earlier this year.
