A small, low-fired beer vessel. This his a historical form and has been blackened over a sooty secondary firing after an initial bonfire. The highly burnished surface created from locally mined and processed clay is subsequently sealed with polish. It fits within the smaller drinking vessel category locally called "umancishana" in isiZulu. Ntombi Nala is renown for experimental surface treatments and her particularly high shine burnishing technique.

Though no direct relation to the lineage of Nala descended from Siphiwe or Nesta Nala, she is of the same generation of makers as Jabulile Nala and has made and innovated in her own ways for several decades. They are from the same province and region in South Africa.
