This cup is the latest evolution of my black lives matter protest work, started in 2020.
The cups are inspired by a mid century modern design for a juice glass or water tumbler, a design that was very popular during the 1960s era of the civil rights movement. They’re a truncated cone, both upward and downward, marked with an abstraction of the black lives matter logo, and on the base they are imprinted with "yes, still". Yes our lives still matter, yes, this fight is still going on.
